DAY 1: SATURDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER

By 24th September 2016 2016 No Comments

Glorious September sunshine was order of the day.  The Auto Tour crew assembled outside the spectacular RAC Country Club ready for the fleet and guests to arrive.  A few final sticker applications, goody bags and lunch boxes prep’d ready  to be put in each car on arrival and great excitement as the fleet starts to gather and line up in front of the fountain.  The Veritas boys on hand to fit trackers and walkie talkies for all keeping comms strong and big brother in place!  As coffee and bacon sarnies are dished out, surprises kept coming as another cherished, newly purchased, loaned or borrowed vehicle turned up.  The Auto Tour spirit so evident with hugs all round and the tremendous excitement and anticipation of what lies ahead.

Sam Barker the faithful Tour photographer in place perched on top of the ‘Photographer’ Disco generously supplied Royal Appointed Sturgess Motor Group, ready to take the team shot in front of the fountain before all heading off up Captains Drive, for the Euro Tunnel.

A smooth passage by all and a safe arrival en France, pointed south and headed to night 1 in the Champagne regions of Reims but this time with a quintessentially  British twist!  The RWD Auto Tour’s most recent partnership is with Hambledon Vineyard generously providing their delicious English Sparkling Wine for the entire trip, including the reception at Hôtel de Paris.

Hambledon’s Founder and aficionado on hand to explain the origins of the Hambledon Vineyard and the Hambledon Premier Cuvée served as an aperitif.  He also gave guests the opportunity to  taste it against a French Champagne so, with a flute in each hand, guest were able to make up their own minds.
